One of the strongest features of the Portugal Golden Visa is that your entire family can be included under a single investment. Here’s exactly how it works.

Who Can Be Included

Under current Portuguese immigration law, the following family members can be included in a Golden Visa application as dependants:

Spouse or de facto partner

Your legally recognised spouse, or a partner with whom you have a recognised de facto union (typically 2+ years cohabitation).

Minor children (under 18)

Children of the main applicant or their spouse/partner.

Adult dependent children (18–26)

Children aged 18 to 26 who are enrolled in education and financially dependent on the applicant.

Parents of the applicant or spouse

Parents who are in the applicant’s or spouse’s financial care (proof of dependency required). Note: rules here have been subject to change — get up-to-date advice.

No Additional Investment Required

Critically, there is no extra investment required to include family members. One qualifying investment covers the main applicant and all eligible dependants.

Each family member receives their own residency card. Each must attend biometrics in Portugal at some point during the application process.

The Process for Family Members

  1. Include family members’ details in the main application
  2. Provide documentation for each (passport, birth certificate, marriage certificate, proof of dependency as applicable)
  3. Each family member attends a biometrics appointment in Portugal
  4. Each receives their own residency card

Family Members’ Rights

Once approved, each family member holds full Golden Visa residency rights:

  • Right to live and work in Portugal
  • Schengen travel access
  • Path to Portuguese citizenship after 5 years of residency

Planning for Future Family Members

Children born or adopted after the initial application can be added as dependants at a later stage.

If you’re planning to apply for a Golden Visa and have family members to include, let us know from the outset — the documentation requirements are more extensive but entirely manageable with the right preparation.
